We wanted to do something for a young, contemporary audience, much like the artists who used to inhabit lofts in SoHo. Green living shouldn’t be more expensive.
New York, NY (PRWEB) March 8, 2011
Petrides Homes, a New York residential development firm, is introducing a new environmentally-friendly and affordable line of homes, CountryLoft™. The new green design takes the industrial aesthetic of 1970s SoHo lofts and adapts it for country living, incorporating architectural elements of large rural work spaces, like sheds and silos.
The unveiling of CountryLoft™ follows on the heels of the completion of the Petrides Homes project Evertson Hill in Millbrook, New York. “With Evertson Hill, we proved that you could build a beautiful and classic home that was still green,” said George Petrides, the company’s founder. “But we wanted to do something for a young, contemporary audience, much like the artists who used to inhabit lofts in SoHo. Green living shouldn’t be more expensive, as it often is. In contrast, CountryLoft™ is affordable, budgeted to cost under $200 per square foot.”
CountryLoft™ utilizes the “kit of parts” concept, so any of the three main areas of the house can be customized to the buyer’s needs. The main living area of the house is constructed of steel girders, a roof that incorporates solar panels and glass walls. Areas of the house that adjoin the loft space make use of proven green homebuilding techniques. A set of service modules house the kitchen and bathrooms, while a steel frame and prefabricated panels form a tower of up to four bedrooms. The house minimizes impact on the environment both during construction, with prefabricated and recycled materials, and after construction, with a design that reduces energy use. Further, to maximize the potential for extended use, the design allows for the house to be disassembled and moved to a new location if desired.
