Background

Considering computational complexity of breaking PGP Disk encryption, algorithms that are exclusively using computers' main processors (CPU) are only effective when executed concurrently on numerous workstations. Considering costs of hardware and multi-workstation software licenses, non-accelerated PGP recovery products are not only slowest to deliver the result, but are extremely cost-ineffective. Products based on dedicated hardware such as Xilinx FPGAs to break PGP encryption are faster, yet at the prices starting at $4,000 are still cost-ineffective.

GPU Acceleration Technology

The ElcomSoft's GPU acceleration technology offloads parts of computational-heavy processing of PGP encryption used in PGPDisk (128-bit and 256-bit) and PGP WDE (Whole Disk Encryption) onto the fast and highly scalable processors featured in the NVIDIA's latest graphic accelerators. When recovering passwords protecting encrypted PGP Disks and if one or more compatible NVIDIA graphics cards are present (configurations with up to four NVIDIA GeForce 8, 9 or 200 series boards are supported per node), the GPU acceleration technology kicks in automatically.
