Douglas A. Schwab, a partner at the Law Offices of Douglas A. Schwab, represents people who have been arrested and who face prosecution for DUI in Arizona. He also represents defendants who have been accused of several different types of crime that include drug charges, sexual crimes, violent crimes and weapons charges. Mr. Schwab hereby alerts the public that anyone who drives a vehicle over the 4th of July weekend should avoid consuming alcohol based on an announcement that there will be police patrols out looking for drunk drivers.
One such announcement was made in an article entitled, “4th of July DUI Task Force operations scheduled” in the Verde Independent. The article was published on June 13, 2013 and it stated that the Camp Verde Marshal's Office along with the Arizona Department of Public Safety and Cottonwood Police will be patrolling that area between the dates of July 4 and July 6 specifically looking for people who may be impaired while behind the wheel.
In addition to that statement, the article revealed that this stepped-up enforcement effort will be funded by a grant that was provided by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. The DUI enforcement effort will consist of a combination of DUI saturation patrols, which basically involve police officers out on the roads looking for drunk drivers, and a DUI checkpoint that will be set up in the area that will pull drivers over as they pass and ask them questions.
Arizona DUI defense attorney Douglas A. Schwab suggests that people who will be consuming alcohol over the holiday avoid driving, and he also suggests that people who will be consuming alcohol either designate a sober driver for the evening or that they make arrangements to be driven by a taxi cab, a limousine or some other service.
These holiday DUI patrols in the state tend to lead to hundreds of arrests. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, police across Arizona conducted 13,000 traffic stops over Memorial Day Weekend that led to 559 arrests on suspicion of DUI and DUI-related charges. Anyone who is arrested on suspicion of DUI is strongly encouraged to seek legal help as soon as possible to begin the process of building a defense.
