PHYTEC’s production-ready phyCORE-OMAP4430 and Linux BSP provide a core foundation so that developers do not have to design an OMAP4-based embedded application from the ground up.

PHYTEC has announced the availability of a fully featured ready-to-use Linux Board Support Package (BSP) supporting kernel 3.0.9 for the phyCORE-OMAP4430. PHYTEC has a long history of bringing industrial embedded Linux projects to the market and this announcement for Linux support is sure to get OEMs excited about building devices that stand apart from the competition.

The Board Support Package - PHYTEC’s rich set of integrated open source software components are packaged in an easy-to-use development environment for Linux application development. The BSP supports the peripherals of the OMAP4430 with source for barebox bootloader, root file system, the kernel, and is packaged with the GCC C/C++ cross development tool chain, Eclipse IDE, and PTXdist. PTXdist is a GPL licensed build system that uses the Kconfig configuration system from the Linux kernel. PHYTECs robust and industry-best Linux distribution offers free build tools, long-term maintenance through mainline compliance, and expert technical support based in our US offices.

The System on Module - The phyCORE-OMAP4430 is a dense and highly integrated System on Module supporting the dual-core ARM® Cortex™-A9 OMAP4430 applications processor from Texas Instruments Inc. (TI). This SOM is well suited to drive high-end, feature-intensive products in the industrial, medical, video and imaging industries. It is the perfect balance of power efficiency and high performance. In a tiny 1.6 x 2 inches (41 x 51 mm) form factor, this SOM provides up to 1 GHz performance, 1 GB Nand-Flash and 1 GB LPD-DDR2 RAM memory, and has a power draw of less than 3W.

The Rapid Development Kit - The PHYTEC Rapid Development Kit provides an immediate platform on which to develop production-ready application code. Each kit includes a SOM, carrier board, and Linux Board Support Package. The SOM is designed to plug into a carrier board that provides I/O connectors such as RJ-45, USB, and LCD. The Rapid Development Kit carrier board serves as a hardware reference design to optimize the customer product development process. The individual components of this kit underscore the exceptional value of PHYTEC solutions in accelerating embedded product development: When you chose PHYTEC, you’re getting high quality and guaranteed accelerated time-to-market. Kit cost is only $599.

Product developers with aggressive timelines or limited resources can also employ PHYTEC's full range of design services, which include board design and software design services.

Josie Adams, Director, Product Development at PHYTEC, commented, "PHYTEC’s production-ready phyCORE-OMAP4430 and Linux BSP provide a core foundation so that developers do not have to design an OMAP4-based embedded application from the ground up. Re-use of our SOM and BSP reduces the complexity and scope of product developments, allowing OEMs to significantly reduce cost, time-to-market and design risk in bringing products to market.”
