This year’s Pinnacle Award winners were announced at the High Point Market and two premier lighting companies were named winners, Golden Lighting and Hubbardton Forge each won in different categories; Golden Lighting won the lighting category and Hubbardton Forge took the win for the Green Leaf category for sustainable design.

The American Society of Furniture Designers (ASFD) board of directors created the Pinnacle Design Achievement Awards in April 1995 to encourage superior design quality and promote the recognition of furniture designers within the retail home furnishings industry. According to, the Pinnacle Awards are “intended to celebrate designs that are produced in large numbers for sale to consumers through retail stores.”

Finalists were announced earlier this year for the 16 product categories, including the Green Leaf category, which was introduced as a category in 2010. Hubbardton Forge earned this year’s Green Leaf title; according to, Green Leaf “entries include products that meet the most discerning design standards while also meeting a legitimately eco-friendly profile.”
Hubbardton Forge took the win with the beautifully made, hand-forged Brindille table lamp, which is designed and manufactured by Vermont artisans and is made of recycled steel. This is not Hubbardton Forge’s first Pinnacle Award; Hubbardton Forge was the first to win the same Green Leaf Award for Eco-Friendly Design in 2010 with the Ondrian table lamp and floor lamp.

In an interview with, Bruce Hathaway, National Residential Sales Manager for Hubbardton Forge, said this is the company’s 8th win for their premier designs and environmental activism and stance.
“We see product design and our ‘green awareness’ as intertwined, fundamental foundations of Hubbardton Forge,” Hathaway said. “Winning the Green Leaf Pinnacle Award is confirmation that our environmental stewardship is critically important at every level of our decision making process.”

Golden Lighting was proud to take a win in the prestigious lighting category with the very elaborate chandelier from the Autumn Twilight collection, introduced in January of this year; the branches of the fixture are sculpted from steel and combined with crystals while draping waterfalls of faceted crystal beads cover the silhouette. The chandelier is finished in mystic gold, which sparkles against the amber-tinted leaf accents. The collection is truly trend-setting and features very innovative designs in lighting.

In a recent article, Danielle Dzurik, Product Development Manager at Golden Lighting, was interviewed and said that Golden Lighting is very proud of this Pinnacle Award win.

“This award demonstrates that Golden Lighting is committed to producing creative lighting designs for our customers,” Dzurik said. “But more importantly, it has inspired us to continue developing innovative lighting, and encouraged us to push the boundaries of conventional lighting.”

According to, the ASFD Pinnacle Awards are judged by a jury of 12 industry professionals and is based on certain criteria of design excellence including: Form and Function, Innovation, Retailer & Manufacturing Benefit and Consumer Benefit.
The ASFD was founded in 1981 and “is the only International non-profit professional organization dedicated to advancing, improving and supporting the profession of furniture design and its positive impact in the marketplace.”
