Backbone Networks Corporation today announced that it has teamed up with Pirate! Promotion and Management, based in Cambridge, MA, to bring new music artists and labels together with college radio stations, especially streaming Internet stations. For radio stations this effort will bring heretofore hard-to-find new, independent music content, as well as help with tips on programming and station promotion. For artists and labels it provides immediate access to Internet radio networks, including a growing network of U.S. student-run college and high school radio stations.
The alliance is being announced at CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival this week in New York City, October 19-23, 2010.
Pirate! co-founder Steve Theo hopes to bring Pirate's entire roster of artists to Backbone's growing lineup of Internet radio stations, including those on the IBS Student Radio Network by Backbone (IBS-SRN). "I'm excited about teaming with Backbone, with their unparalleled suite of Internet software and service, because they've proven that college radio can and should be a community for learning professional broadcasting skills in an environment that's fun," said Theo. "These students are becoming the tastemakers for new music on their campuses, and the Internet is helping them spread their programs around the world."
Backbone co-founder George Capalbo adds, "It's great to team up with an innovative group like Pirate!, because they know what young audiences want to hear and what artists need to succeed. We're thrilled about the innovative concepts that Pirate! will bring to college radio and our networks."
