By letting folks know the potential for infection exists, we hope to avert illness throughout our communities.
Franklin, TN (Vocus) September 9, 2010
PlantCML®, an EADS North America company, today announced the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department’s (Mass.) unprecedented use of emergency notification technology to alert people throughout Plymouth and Bristol counties regarding the threat of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (Triple E) during the month of August. The more than 211,000 geographically distributed calls sent through the GeoCast® Web™ solution advised area homes and businesses of safety precautions and localized aerial mosquito spraying.
“Triple E poses a serious health risk to humans and animals,” said James P. Muscato, Field Services Director of the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department. “By letting folks know the potential for infection exists, we hope to avert illness throughout our communities.”
For public officials, the decision to use the GeoCast Web notification solution employed by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department was based on the department’s seven years of success using the application. It was also due in part to the positive results of field testing PlantCML’s latest release of the software, version 1.7, which is currently scheduled for general availability in late September.
Employed by hundreds of public safety operations globally, the GeoCast Web solution enables alerting of precisely targeted geographic areas. Users simply select the location(s) requiring notification on digital, street-level maps; prepare or select a message; and activate the system. Communications often include situation-related details about hazardous materials incidents, extreme weather and missing persons, or provide potentially life-saving instruction. The MassCall® option of the GeoCast Web solution allows users to offload notifications to PlantCML’s remote hosting facility where high call volumes like those related to the Triple E threat, can be easily managed in a short period of time.
“We are thrilled Plymouth County agreed to field-validate our latest release of the GeoCast Web solution and exercise its MassCall option,” said Mike Adams, product line manager for PlantCML’s Notification Solutions and Services business unit. “We are even more pleased it exceeded their expectations, and proved once again the tremendous benefits of proactive communication.”
