The American Cancer Society estimates that 190,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the United States, with more than 1 million diagnosed worldwide. As National Breast Cancer Awareness Month approaches, Dr. Dan Mills, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Orange County, is raising awareness for the disease and supporting those patients that have been affected by breast cancer with an innovative technique for breast reconstruction. Developed by Cytori, a medical technologies company that focuses on the potential of stem and regenerative cells found in adipose tissue, Dr. Mills says he is able to use pure fat grafts to turn back some of the effects of radiation for patients with their own fat-derived regenerative cells to reconstruct the breast.

In further support of his patients and his pursuit of the latest innovations in breast surgery, Dr. Mills will be lectured on October 4th in Toronto at Plastic Surgery 2010, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Conference on his twenty years of experience performing breast augmentation in Orange County. The lecture concerned his 20 years extensive experience with a specific technique known as TransAxillary SubPectoral Augmentation (TASPA), which allows Dr. Mills to place an implant beneath the chest wall muscle through a small incision in the armpit leaving an inconspicuous scar.

Whether Dr. Mills is performing cosmetic procedures like breast reconstruction or the tummy tuck in Orange County, he says his ultimate goal is the safety and health of his patients. However, as Dr. Mills raises awareness for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, he says he looks forward to continuing to pursue the latest technological advancements in breast reconstruction to further promote awareness and empower his patients that have been affected by the disease.
