Orlando Plastic Surgeon and ASPS Statistics Confirm Increase in Male Plastic Surgery Procedures

Recently released statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) show that the number of gynecomastia, or male breast reduction, procedures performed in 2011 has increased by 8% to over 19,000. Dr. James Matas, a board certified plastic surgeon in Orlando, says he has seen a similar swell in demand for male plastic surgery at his practice, suggesting the steady rise is likely a result of the higher approval rating for cosmetic enhancements amongst Americans and the pioneering of more effective solutions for enhancing one's body as well as some economic rebound.

Plastic Surgeon in Orlando Says Male Plastic Surgery is Growing in Popularity

Self consciousness drives most men to our office because as plastic surgeons we are uniquely trained to dedicate specific attention to improving their self esteem.

At his surgical center for plastic surgery in Orlando, Dr. James Matas says demand for aesthetic procedures amongst male patients has been steadily growing over the past few years. He says body contouring and lifting procedures are particularly popular for men, including procedures such as male breast reduction, tummy tucks, and liposuction in Orlando. The recent release of 2011 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) confirms Dr. Matas' observations.

Dr. Matas says the surge in demand for male cosmetic enhancements comes as no surprise considering that a majority of Americans now approve of such procedures, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). He says male patients can now enjoy confidence not only in their bodies, but also in their decision to undergo an aesthetic procedure as the stigma against male enhancement lessens. Whether patients may have lost a tremendous amount of weight or are simply looking for a facial rejuvenation procedure to improve their success in the job hunt, Dr. Matas says more men can now pursue cosmetic resolutions for returning their appearance to its optimal shape and tone. "Self consciousness drives most men to our office because as plastic surgeons we are uniquely trained to dedicate specific attention to improving their self esteem."

With the recent increase in demand for plastic surgery procedures such as male breast reduction and tummy tuck, Dr. Matas also says the market for expansion and development will only continue to grow. He says advancements in effective, minimally invasive body contouring procedures have already been introduced and he hopes they will continue to be perfected as more male patients continue to seek aesthetic procedures. Dr. Matas also adds that he urges those interested in a cosmetic enhancement for men to pursue the experience and expertise of a board-certified plastic surgeon. "Most of our male patients are looking to correct an area that they feel insecure about with minimal downtime and few complications. Performing their surgery as outpatient under the care of a board certified plastic surgeon and in a fully accredited surgical facility also puts them at ease.”
