iPlaygroups.com is a free services for parents to use to connect with other parents. It has ballooned to over 5,000 members in 5 months and is growing steadily every day. There are more than 480 playgroups registered around the country including in Alaska and Hawaii.

iPlaygroups.com was started because the founding parents were uncomfortable with the amount of information they were able to find about other parents and their playgroup activities through simple searches and other playgroup websites. Their own local playgroups would post playgroup activities on an insecure website for all eyes to see or send out multiple emails announcing upcoming activities. With iPlayGroups, users must login in to view their group activities and all information is kept private within the group.

As a stay-at-home Mom it has been hard for me to meet other Moms in my area. iplaygroups.com has been wonderful in connecting me not only with other Moms in my area, but all over the country. With a MySpace like “friends” system moms are able to limit access to their profile and to their baby’s profile. Contacting a new mom or requesting to join a playgroup is all done through the safety of the site, helping to keep parents’ information private. Babies even have their own profile and “friend” list. Only accepted group members can view the upcoming events and activities for the group. This helps keep playgroup events private. Invitations and RSVPs can be sent directly through iPlayGroups.com, which helps keep track of whose attending events. The site also features a Blog area and classified listings.
iPlaygroups.com is not only a great tool for existing playgroups, but it also helps moms connect when they move or don’t know other parents in their area. They can easily search for parents with similar interests.
