Plumbworld specialise in selling bathroom products, ranging from complete bathroom suites, shower enclosures and bathroom furniture to electric showers, toilets, and washbasins. They have provided the guide to choosing the perfect washbasin for a bathroom.
Gary Hopkins, Product Manager of Plumbworld said:
“Whatever space or style, there is a bathroom basin to suit – from sleek and modern looks to decorative ceramics, Plumbworld can provide them all. Here is a guide to choosing the best one for your needs.
Counter top – Very popular in modern schemes, counter-top basins are essentially a bowl with a drainage hole that sits on a worktop or a piece of furniture.
Wall Mounted - Good for contemporary schemes, wall-mounted basins are attached with concealed brackets, leaving the flood free.
Semi-Recessed – These basins are partially sunk into a counter or unit, with the front section protruding. Units for these are narrower than standard ones, saving floor space.
Corner – A convenient choice where space is at a premium, corner basins tend to be compact and wall hung, although pedestal versions are available.
Pedestal – This is the most common basin style, with hundreds of designs and styles to choose from. A floor-mounted pedestal supports the basin and hides all the pipework.
Vanity unit – Comprising a basin fitted into a dedicated piece of furniture, vanity units offer a neat storage solution.
There is a wide range of materials that washbasin can be made from, all have their own benefits and downfalls. Ceramic – Easy to clean, durable and practical, never go out of style. Glass – Different colours available, will show water and soap marks easily, can look dated as fashion changes. Metal – Great for bouncing light around your bathroom, hard wearing and easy to clean. You will need to buff it regularly to maintain a shine. Stone – Wonderful material for providing colour and individuality, and will give any bathroom a luxurious, spa-like feel. Stone is usually expensive, and some types can stain easily. Last but not least, Wood – These look beautiful and are warm to the touch, teak is the most frequently used wood as it contains natural waterproofing oils. Wood basins need regular treatment to maintain their looks and are pricey”
