Even though the podcasting audience is constantly growing, only a small percentage of consumers regularly listen to podcasts.
The founder of the blog PodcastingTricks.com believes that making it easier for people to understand, find, listen to, download and subscribe to podcasts is the key to increasing awareness.
Scott Bourne, the founder of NetRadio, host of the popular iLifeZone podcast and publisher of PodcastingTricks.com is holding a contest to create the ultimate Podcasting FAQ. The winner will receive a one year's subscription to the digital media training site, lynda.com. The prize is valued at $250.
"After receiving dozens of daily e-mails from people who are just finding out about podcasting, I decided I want to create the mother of all podcasting FAQs," said Bourne. "We've got to make it easier for people to understand the process if we want to significantly grow the audience."
The contest calls for the creation of a document or other digital media asset that fully explains podcasting and how it works. The winner will be someone who teaches the new podcast listener all the basics while following a few rules.
The FAQ needs to be simple without being condescending. It needs to start from square one and take the reader/listener through the entire process without being too verbose. It needs to be complete without being too long. It needs to be educational and friendly. And it wouldn't hurt if it was done with some style or humor.
Contestants will create their proposed FAQ and post it on their web site or send it to Bourne via postal mail for review.
The winning entry will become a permanent part of the PodcastingTricks.com website.
Bourne also plans to encourage other podcasters to link to his FAQ so that it benefits the entire community.
All entries must be received by September 15, 2006. The winner at the Portable Media Expo in September. In addition to the free subscription to lynda.com, the winner will receive a link from PodcastingTricks.com and credit for creating the FAQ.
