As we enter the holiday buying season, we enjoyed creating the ability to provide parents a new level of transparency in the game rating process through the ESRB iPhone App.

PointAbout, Inc., (http://www.PointAbout.com) is pleased to announce the release of a free iPhone app for the Entertainment Software Rating Board (http://www.ESRB.org) that will bring new transparency to parents' shopping decisions this holiday season. The app allows users to search by title and find rating summaries for games that have one. Rating summaries are brief yet detailed descriptions of the content that factored into the rating assigned to a game, and are available for all titles rated since July 1, 2008.

The ESRB app was developed by PointAbout, Inc. a Washington, DC based software company that specializes in high-end iPhone app development. The ESRB rating search app is unique because it provides quick, easy access to rating summaries right at the time parents are making a buying decision. It's invaluable information delivered right when the consumer needs it in a convenient and user-friendly app.
“The app we developed with PointAbout gives parents access to our rating search and new rating summaries right from the store when they’re buying video games for their child,” said ESRB president Patricia Vance. “We set out to create a sleek, user-friendly app in time for the holiday shopping season and PointAbout delivered. They worked closely with us every step of the way and helped us give parents the gift of a really great tool for making even more informed decisions about video games.”

While game content is rated based on violence, sexual or suggestive themes, profanity, depictions or use of drugs, alcohol and tobacco, and gambling, having access to much more detail behind the rating helps parents make decisions consistent with what they deem appropriate for their children. This eases parents’ fears of making a wrong purchase decision by letting them learn nuanced information about the game in real-time.
"This ESRB app was a very interesting one to develop because of its usefulness in mobile situations," said Scott Suhy, CEO of PointAbout. "As we enter the holiday buying season, we enjoyed creating the ability to provide parents a new level of transparency in the game rating process through the ESRB iPhone App.”
