pornography industry in 2006 were at least $97 billion, with revenues in
the United States fourth highest among all countries at $13.3 billion.
Pornography revenues in China were the highest for 2006 at $27.4 billion
with South Korea at $25.7 billion and Japan at $20 billion.
Every second $3,075.64 is spent on pornography, 28,258 Internet users
view pornography and 372 Internet users type adult search terms into
search engines.
Previous numbers put the worldwide revenues for pornography at $57
billion for the year 2003. The worldwide revenues of the pornography
industry today equal more than the revenues of the top technology
companies combined – Microsoft, Google,
Amazon, eBay, Yahoo!, Apple, Netflix and EarthLink.

researched more than 10,000 sources, including Web sites and statistics,
and reports from international media, from the pornography industry and
from anti-pornography organizations.
Internet Search Statistics
The TopTenREVIEWS report details 20 search keywords related to the
pornography industry. Between 2005 and 2006, searches for the terms “adult
dating,” “sex ads”
and “adult sex”
increased the most, growing by 622 percent, 382 percent and 301 percent
respectively. The No. 1 searched term, “sex,”
was searched more than 75 million times in 2006, an increase of 7
percent compared to 2005.
Searches for the terms “porn,”
“free porn,” “cyber
sex,” “playboy”
and “nude”
decreased in 2006 slightly, but none of the terms decreased more than 26
percent compared to 2005.
A preponderance of men searched for the terms “porn,”
“free porn,” “playboy”
and “teen porn” in
2006 with the percentage of men searching for these terms being 96
percent, 97 percent, 86 percent and 82 percent, respectively.
Women more frequently searched for the terms “adult
dating” and “adult
sex” with searches for these terms both at 64
percent.
The Top Video Pornography Producing Countries
The United States is the top video pornography producing country,
followed by Brazil, The Netherlands, Spain and Japan. Within the United
States, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, Chicago and San Francisco are
the most notable cities within the pornography industry.
Pornographic Web Pages by Country
The United States has produced the largest number of pornographic Web
pages on the Internet with more than 244 million Web pages with
pornographic material. Germany is second with 10 million pornographic
Web pages, followed by the United Kingdom with 8.5 million and Australia
with 5.6 million.
Income Demographics of Users of Pornography on the Web
Most Internet viewers of pornography tend to be those with higher
incomes. In fact, the highest percentage – 35
percent – of viewers of pornography on the
Web are those who earn $75,000 per year or more. The next highest
segment – at almost 26 percent –
is those who earn $50,000 to $75,000 per year in income. The lowest
group of Internet viewers of pornography – 6
percent – is those earning incomes of less
than $15,000.
