Toshiba Launches World’s Lightest Notebook
IRVINE, Calif. (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) July 25, 2007 --
Toshiba’s
Digital Products Division, a division of Toshiba America Information
Systems, Inc., today announced two new additions to its award winning
ultraportable Portégé®
R500 series, which incorporates several world’s
first technologies. Toshiba today launched the Portégé
R500-S5003, the world’s lightest notebook1
with a solid state hard drive (SSD), and the Portégé
R500-S5004, the world’s thinnest notebook1
with a solid state drive and an integrated 7mm optical disk drive2,
further advancing the highly innovative Portégé
R500 series.
Engineered for on-to-go productivity the Portégé
R500-S5003 weighs 1.72-pounds3, making it the
world’s lightest notebook. To achieve this
milestone, Toshiba equipped the Portégé
R500-S5003 with a 64GB SSD4 for enhanced system
responsiveness, and a three cell lithium ion battery for featherweight
mobile computing. By eliminating all moving parts from this
configuration of the Portégé
R500, Toshiba has designed a machine with an enhanced level of
reliability and durability. The Portégé
R500-S5003 has a price point of $2,6995.
To provide a balance between convenience and portability, the Portégé
R500-S5004 measures as thin as 0.77-inches, providing mobile computing
users the world’s thinnest notebook with an
integrated optical disk drive and a 64GB SSD4.
With the inclusion of an integrated 7mm DVD SuperMulti drive, Toshiba
has eliminated the hassle and bulk of carrying additional drives and
cables making the Portégé
R500-S5004 the supreme mobile computing solution. The Portégé
R500-S5004 has a price point of $2,9995.
The Portégé
R500-S5003 and Portégé
R500-S5004 both feature a 12.1-inch transreflective LED backlit display
to embrace the diverse mobile scenarios in which notebook computers are
used. This distinct innovation makes the Portégé
R500 ideal for usage in virtually all types of lighting situations,
including direct sunlight. Indoors, the LED backlit display provides an
image that’s rich in color saturation and
quality. Outdoors, the transreflective screen enables users to expand
their mobile computing to locations directly exposed to sunlight
including the local coffee shop or park.
