A rapid adoption of mobile devices around the world has been highlighted by a report just published. It's impact on paid online advertising has shocked Australian Online Marketing Specialist, David Twigg, who warns businesses will be left behind if they don't make this trend their friend.

These figures are quite extraordinary,a 42% higher CTR for tablets vs desktops is a massive increase

A new report published by Marin Software claims that people clicking on paid adverts on mobile devices is growing rapidly in the USA. During the second quarter of 2012 Marin say that the share of clicks reached 18% compared to 14% in the first quarter of 2012. Of the 18% share of paid traffic, 10% came from mobile phones like the iphone and 8% from tablets like the ipad.

Marin also claimed in their report that the average cost per click to an advertiser on tablets was 18% lower than it would be for desktop computers and that the average click through rate was 42% higher than on desktop computers.

David Twigg from OMC,Online Marketing Specialists in Brisbane,Australia is astounded “these figures are quite extraordinary,a 42% higher CTR for tablets vs desktops is a massive increase. Certainly tablets are really becoming mainstream recreational browsing media and PPC ads do seem to get more priority on a tablet but the speed of change paid advertising is going through only seems to increase.”

When surveying the UK clientele of their Global Online Advertisng Index, Marin concluded that tablet users in the UK had an even higher click through rate than Americans with mobile devices taking a 20% share of clicks.

Twigg says “Since the iphone and ipad started to get traction in terms of internet traffic share we have been running separate ppc campaigns for our professional services clients in Australia. The unique elements of paid advertising campaigns on mobile devices means that you need to take a different approach to mobile device traffic. We have certainly seen a visible growth in both Australian mobile device traffic and conversions amongst our clients but that 42% higher CTR in the USA is mind blowing and the UK figure though not quoted seems to be higher.”

In the eurozone mobile device activity is less flamboyant however the same trend applies to the USA,UK and eurozone in that advertisers are spending more on tablet paid ads than on mobile phone paid ads. This report seems to have exposed the rapid online advertsing revolution that the world is going through and confirmed that advertisers who are ignoring mobile device paid ads are leaving money on the table.
