Vocus, Inc. (NASDAQ: VOCS) a leading provider of on-demand software for public relations management, today announced that Verbatim, maker of information storage and computer peripherals, has selected Vocus PR Management software to streamline its outreach activities. Verbatim cites access to an extensive media contact database, media monitoring and analytics, and the ability to consolidate its public relations activities on a single comprehensive platform, as the key reasons for choosing Vocus.

“We maintain an outside PR agency along with internal staff and Vocus provides us with complete visibility into the day-to-day PR activities,” said Karen McGuire-Marshall, manager, Communications for Verbatim Americas. “Vocus’ analytics gives us the means to measure our PR results – we’re spending more on PR this year and we needed a way to benchmark our return on our investment.”

McGuire-Marshall also noted that the Vocus system is just one part of the company’s move to revamp its overall marketing efforts. However, the renewed emphasis also means that its PR staff will need to broaden its outreach to influencers outside of its traditional technology roots by tapping into consumer oriented publications, bloggers and even social media.

“We’ve got products that meet the needs of a wide consumer audience,” added McGuire-Marshall. “Vocus provides us with a way, for example, to identify key influencers, develop relationships and conduct outreach with product reviewers and writers we may not have previously considered.”

As an example of new media efforts it’s PR team is conducting, Verbatim recently completed a successful blogger outreach campaign – Verbatim’s Got Your Back(up!). Verbatim made a range of storage devices, like removable thumb drives which can be used to save and share photos, available for bloggers for review. Verbatim also ran a contest that provided bloggers with products to give away to their readers.

“These products are of interest to both bloggers and to their readers,” said McGuire-Marshall. “We’ve also received a great deal of market research by way of feedback from this campaign.”

“In a Vocus survey conducted in November 2009, 80 percent of respondents said they would focus more on social media, and 58 percent said they would focus more on PR measurement in 2010,” said Kye Strance, director of product management with Vocus. “Verbatim is demonstrative of how leading companies are tackling measurement and outreach in a new media world.”
