Dallas, TX (PRWEB) July 24, 2012
The Pradaxa Resource Center, a patient advocacy group, is alerting those patients taking the medication of safety warnings by the FDA and other organizations, as well as the availability of legal action for those affected.
Anyone who has suffered internal bleeding or had a loved one affected by taking Pradaxa is encouraged to speak with a lawyer about their legal options as soon as possible.
Pradaxa is a popular blood thinning drug prescribed to prevent strokes and blood clots in patients with atrial fibrillation. Although the medication was released less than two years ago in October of 2010, The Wall Street Journal reported on April 24, 2012, that Pradaxa has already sold over $1 billion for the 12-month period ending in February.
On December 7, 2011, however, the FDA warned that they were investigating the safety of Pradaxa after receiving higher-than-expected reports of injury or death among patients. The Institute for Safe Medication Practices also reported on June 6, 2012 that Pradaxa led all medications in 2011 for number of death or bleeding reports to the FDA.
Due to the number of lawsuits expected over Pradaxa bleeding injury or death, lawyers filed a motion on May 30, 2012 requesting that all cases be moved to one central federal court. The case is known as MDL No. 2385 IN RE: Pradaxa Product Liability Litigation, Southern District of Illinois. In the motion, lawyers state they expect as many as 500 Pradaxa lawsuits will be filed.
The United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) has indicated the issue of whether the cases are to be consolidated, and where, will be decided on July 26, 2012.
The Pradaxa Resource Center was launched to provide patients who are taking or have taken Pradaxa with the most up-to-date information on the research, warnings and litigation news surrounding the drug.
Legal help is also available for those who have suffered internal bleeding or other Pradaxa side effects. However, due to the specialized nature of these federal MDL cases, only certain lawyers can adequately help with a case. The Pradaxa Resource center works only with lawyers who are already handling Pradaxa lawsuits.
