The March of Dimes March for Babies is taking place in Manassas with assistance from the leading pre-natal and post-natal exercise program Stroller Strides.

1 in 8 babies are born premature and the rate has been escalating steadily and alarmingly over the past two decades. Preterm birth can happen to any pregnant woman and the cause is unknown for 50% of those births. The March of Dimes has made some progress in learning the causes of premature birth, but reports that help is still needed. One day all babies will be born healthy, but it takes events such as the Walk for Babies to get there.

March for Babies is Sunday, April 29th at the Loy E. Harris Pavilion in Manassas. Participants should arrive at 9:00 a.m. for registration, breakfast and coffee (provided by Safeway and Starbucks, respectively), music (provided by DJ Ruben Najera), and the opening ceremonies! Ribbon cutting will proceed the walk promptly at 10:00 a.m. When walkers return, lunch provided by courtesy of Safeway.

March for Babies is a rain or shine event. The babies need help, no matter what the weather. If the weather is extremely bad, please contact the March of Dimes Office at 571-257-2330 for up-to-date details recorded on the voicemail.

There is plenty of free parking around Old Town Manassas. There is parking available at the BB&T lot, the new parking garage located at Prince William St. and Battle St., the commuter lot by the high school, as well as the lot at the Visitor’s Center. There are many places to park, but participants are urged to be aware of any posted signage and follow those rules first.

The route is approximately 4 miles long. The route will begin and end at the Harris Pavilion. Along the way, there are 6 Spirit Stations where walkers may rest and get some goodies. There are also portable restrooms throughout the route.

The route is stroller-friendly, wheelchair-friendly, and dog-friendly. This is a community event, with massive participation expected. All participants are welcome to join the pre-event warm ups hosted by Stroller strides at the pavilion. Before the walk, Stroller Strides will also be at the Pavilion with a Stroller & Roller Decorating Station. Rolling walkers are encouraged to stop by for complimentary stroller or wheelchair decorating to add to the festivity.

Children's activities will include a moon bounce, face painting, a clown, etc.
