May 15th, 2010 will mark the 1st time in the 135 year history of the Preakness Stakes that steamed blue crabs will be offered at Pimlico's premier racing event.
Casey's Crab Company of Laurel, MD will be offering Maryland's state crustacean in many forms, as part of Preakness InfieldFEST 2010. Casey's is set to be located in the new Jagermeister Beer Garden of the Preakness Infield, where several national and local bands will be performing throughout the day. A few items on the menu include: Steamed Blue Crabs, Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, Soft Shell Crabs, Maryland Crab Soup and a Raw Bar featuring Oysters, Clams and Crab Claws.
The 2010 Preakness InfieldFEST, presented by Budweiser Select, is a day-long multi-celebration festival experience that will feature live music, entertainment and a "Taste of Maryland" that will feature Maryland-branded food and beverage concessions.
Musical performances announced are Grammy Award winner Zac Brown Band, Platinum selling musical groups O.A.R. and Collective Soul, regional favorites Mr. Greengenes, and country-rocker Jason Michael Carroll. Other attractions include the 2010 season opening tournament of the Toyota Pro Beach East Volleyball Tour, a sanctioned tournament run by the Maryland Corn Hole Association and a high-tech cell phone scavenger hunt, powered by SCVNGR.
The Preakness Stakes is $1,000,000 Grade I thoroughbred stakes race of 1-3/16 mile for 3 year old horses, held on the third Saturday in May each year at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The attendance at the Preakness Stakes ranks second in North America and usually surpasses the attendance of all other stakes races except for the Kentucky Derby.
