By selling more vehicles that are truly 100% American made, we’re helping contribute to job growth in the U.S., and that’s something our employees and our customers can feel great about.
Ramsey, New Jersey (PRWEB) November 13, 2012
When a silver 2013 Avalon Hybrid rolled off the assembly line at Toyota’s Kentucky plant, it marked a significant milestone for the automaker and its 365,000 American employees. The car was not only the 25 millionth produced on North American soil, but also represented the first to be designed by American engineers at the Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Prestige Toyota is proud to help create and support American jobs and to sell Toyota vehicles; it supports Toyota Motor Company’s efforts to transition more of its research and development to the United States.
For the development of the new Avalon, Toyota named its first non-Japanese chief engineer, Randy Stephens. According to Automotive News, Stephens was provided with his own staff and was allowed unprecedented freedom in re-creating the Avalon, as he “fought for its flashy redesign” based on his team’s vision.
Expansion of research and development in the U.S. will continue, as Toyota plans to hire 100 more engineers at the Ann Arbor tech center within the next five years. The center has begun developing a new engine in a US-led initiative for the first time, and two other American-born engineers are heading up the forthcoming redesigns of the Toyota Tundra, Tacoma and Venza for the 2014 and 2015 model years.
Toyota currently manufactures 70 percent of its vehicles sold in the U.S. at its six North American plants, according to a press release from Toyota. Four plants are located in the U.S. (Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi and Texas) with one each in Canada and Mexico. Vehicles produced in the U.S. include the following:
- Camry Hybrid
Steve Reedy, general sales manager at Prestige Toyota, is excited about Toyota’s new direction and what it means for the future of the dealership. “We’ve always been proud of the quality of the vehicles we sell, but now that Americans are building them from the ground up, it adds another dimension,” Reedy said. “By selling more vehicles that are truly 100% American made, we’re helping contribute to job growth in the U.S., and that’s something our employees and our customers can feel great about.”
“I was at the NYC Auto Show for the launch event for the all-new Avalon,” Reedy continued. “I got to see it up close, and it really is a beautifully designed, well-made car. We’re excited to start selling it when it arrives next month.”
The 2013 Toyota Avalon will allow buyers to choose between a V6 gas engine or a “Hybrid Synergy Drive” for the first time. The new hybrid model will achieve an EPA-rated 40 miles per gallon.
