“The Primex Eco Clock’s combination of photoelectric cells and battery back-up allows maintenance-free operation for up to 10 years—twice as long as other products in the market,” says Mike O’Brien, Primex Wireless Director of Product Marketing.

Primex Wireless today introduced the Primex Eco Clock, the industry’s first “green” synchronized clock solution. Designed for energy-conscious educational institutions, the Eco Clock reduces environmental waste and helps maintain timekeeping accuracy to enhance overall school operations, while lowering operating costs.

Based on a wireless and synchronized timekeeping platform, the Primex Eco Clock is powered by ambient light from indoor fixtures and indirect sunlight. It uses four photoelectric cells that collect light energy and store it in an integrated and rechargeable battery cell.

“With an increased number education Facility Managers looking for ways to achieve state-mandated or self-directed ‘green initiatives,’ creating a wireless clock solution that is dedicated to conserving resources was a natural progression for us,” says Paul Shekoski, Primex Wireless CEO.

In periods of no or low lighting, the Eco Clock’s second hand automatically stops moving to conserve energy, while the clock keeps accurate time. During extended periods of darkness, such as a long weekend or summer break, the Eco Clock utilizes the energy stored in its cells, drawing on its single lithium battery back-up only if necessary. Once light returns, the clock will resume gathering and storing its energy reserves.

The Eco Clock significantly limits battery waste and disposal by doubling the lifespan of the back-up battery in each clock. Plus, it reduces the maintenance burden on staff, making it an appealing timekeeping option for schools that are constantly dealing with budget constraints and limited resources.

“The Primex Eco Clock’s combination of photoelectric cells and battery back-up allows maintenance-free operation for up to 10 years—twice as long as other products in the market,” says Mike O’Brien, Primex Wireless Director of Product Marketing.

As with other Primex products, the Eco Clock automatically adjusts for Daylight Saving Time and resets after power outages, eliminating the need to dedicate resources to the manual update of clocks. In addition, the Eco Clock is able to deliver the accuracy that schools demand to ensure that students and faculty are on time, every time. It receives its signal from any Primex Wireless 72Mhz transmitter and synchronizes with its highly reliable GPS time source, providing clock accuracies of 300 milliseconds or less.
