Princess Cruises today revealed the 40th post on its blog, “50 Essential Experiences: The Travel Bucket List,” beginning a countdown of the final 10 experiences. In the 40th story, Director of Customer Relations Stacy Souza relives a trip to India that sparked an unexpected interest in the country that continues to this day.
She writes: “To me, the beauty of the Taj Mahal was in the detail. Everywhere I looked I saw dramatically intricate touches – carvings, inlays and semiprecious gemstones. I couldn’t help but be amazed by the grandeur of the site. I found myself thinking about the incredible effort it took to build such a structure purely out of love.” read more
Since it debuted last October, the line’s 50 Essential Experiences blog has received more than two million page views and more than 4,000 reader comments, making it one of the most popular blogs in the travel industry. The blog stories are authored by Princess’ own destination experts – its long-serving and well-traveled shipboard and shoreside employees. Each post tells a personal story, and readers also meet the expert through a “revealing” questionnaire.
“We think our blog has resonated with so many because it inspires readers to consider their own travel bucket lists, and what experiences they dream of having,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president. “Hundreds of people have commented that our blog has given them ideas about their next travel destinations, and now we’re only 10 away from completing the full list of experiences that our Princess experts consider to be essential.”
In its first 40 posts the blog has taken readers around the world, from the first experience in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to off-the-beaten path destinations such as Pitcairn Island. Readers have traveled along as Princess experts have shared their stories about dog sledding on a glacier in Alaska, visiting a traditional Japanese home, and planning a memorial ceremony at ANZAC Cove in Turkey. Princess bloggers have told stories of leaving home for the first time to see Athens, visiting their home country of Ireland as a tourist with fresh eyes and, in a special post by Princess’ CEO, returning to Vietnam years after having been a soldier there.
In addition, each week a reader story is featured. In this week’s “Reader Essential Experience of the Week,” a passenger gets a very unexpected serenade in Rome from some famous faces.
