On Memorial Day we honor our soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen, not war itself. We honor not a political ideology, but rather those who have given their lives so others could live and flourish

Today on the Princess Cruises blog, “50 Essential Experiences: The Travel Bucket List,” Princess President and CEO Alan Buckelew has written a special “Thoughts About Memorial Day” post to mark the upcoming holiday. Buckelew notes that he was “completely overwhelmed” by the response to his previous blog post about returning to Vietnam, and so he decided to share some additional thoughts about Memorial Day from the perspective of a combat veteran.
He writes: “On Memorial Day we honor our soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen, not war itself. We honor not a political ideology, but rather those who have given their lives so others could live and flourish. As President Kennedy once said, ‘A nation reveals itself not only by the men it produces but also by the men it honors, the men it remembers.’ I couldn’t agree more. Memorial Day is a day we should honor and remember those men and women who gave their lives in battle.” read more
Buckelew additionally shares information about the traveling version of the Vietnam Memorial – The Wall that Heals – which will be in Orange, CA in June for an event at which he will be a featured speaker. He also invited family members and friends of Vietnam veterans listed on the Wall to submit photos to the Virtual Wall, “to make sure that no face is ever forgotten.”
