Rocky Mountain Printing today announced its designation as the first Utah general commercial printer to meet "chain of custody" standards set by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for respecting the environment, preserving natural resources and renewing the ecosystem. The company invites business leaders to attend iPrintResponsibly events on November 1st (Salt Lake) and 2nd (Lehi) to explore the business benefits and strategy behind printing with paper products from certified sources. That responsibility must be seen in our actions and in everything we do.

"As one of the largest printers in the state, we printed on 7.6 million pounds of paper in 2007 to produce a full array of business deliverables for customers," said Gary Bengtzen, CEO of Rocky Mountain Printing. "We believe it is our obligation to demonstrate leadership in the printing industry by offering environmentally sustainable solutions and technology to customers."

FSC and SFI chain-of-custody standards are shared by iPrintResponsibly event co-sponsors Unisource and xpedx. Keynote speaker for the two-hour event and open house will be Derek Smith, international paper industry expert and business leader.

"My belief is that each one of us has an individual and collective responsibility to protect the environment, for our families, for our fellow human beings and for future generations," stated Mr. Smith. "That responsibility must be seen in our actions and in everything we do."

FSC and SFI developed their certifications as an alternative to traditional recycling, since recycled paper products are not a viable solution for many client applications. FSC and SFI promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests. Certified paper is "virgin" paper where the tree is planted, the pulp is made and the paper is manufactured by companies that have demonstrated their environmental vision.
