Team Pro Comp driver Mike Johnson captured second place at the 2014 Smittybilt Every Man Challenge during the King of the Hammers off-roading event. Johnson finished with a time of 6 hours 22 minutes in the 4500 Rubicon Express Modified Class held February 6. According to Johnson, his Jeep’s Pro Comp Extreme Mud Terrain 2 tires figured prominently in his podium run.

“The Pro Comp Xtreme MT2s were by far the best tire I’ve ever run in the rocks and they were great in the desert, too,” says Johnson. “We had a high PSI and they hooked up amazingly. I was beyond impressed and it’s great that you can buy these tires.”

Getting to the race itself proved an odyssey when Johnson blew out his Jeep’s motor during pre-running. Luckily, he was able to retrieve a stock Jeep 4-liter motor with about 120,000 miles on it. Then during qualifying Johnson lost a fuel pump, so he had to begin the Every Man Challenge in the 27 position.

“During the race we lost a brake line at around mile 60, then a radiator fan switch about ten miles later,” he laughs. Despite losing a bit of steering, Johnson soldiered on to the final desert stretch where he realized with steering issues and a broken sway bar he could only muster 65 miles per hour. He finished the entire 120-mile race through punishing terrain without experiencing any flat tires.

“This race result is a true testament to the performance of the new Pro Comp Xtreme MT2 tire,” says Pro Comp Director of Sales and Marketing Steve Hutchinson. “We’re honored to be associated with Mike and are proud of him for this achievement.”

In addition to the Xtreme MT2s, Johnson’s Jeep sported fabricated 9 inch housing, Poison Spyder fenders, Pro Comp HID lights, and BTR wheels. Primarily created for drivers who like to play in the dirt, Pro Comp Extreme Mud Terrain 2 tires are customized for 4x4 off-road use. Xtreme MT2s are available for purchase from several retailers including 4 Wheel Parts and 4Wheel Drive Hardware.
