At the Interactive Design Institute we encourage our students to participate in national & international design competitions as this gives them the invaluable experience of competing against established practitioners.

A product design student with The Interactive Design Institute, the UK’s leading provider of online courses in design, has achieved success in a major national competition.

Internet telephony company, the Directory of Internet Communications Exchange (or D.I.C.E.), has announced the winner of a design competition that has been running with a number of London based design Universities. Lucas Kuta, a student of the Interactive Design Institute, was picked on Friday 25th of November from a number of entries as the winner by a panel consisting of company management and shareholders.

“We wanted the enclosure and packaging for our first consumer facing product to be exciting, fresh and inspiring. Whilst there is an abundance of established talent in the market, we were keen to tap into some real raw, young talent and that’s why we took this approach”, said Steve Leighton the Managing Director of D.I.C.E.

“We worked with people who genuinely wanted to work with us and that desire to create something bespoke, and this showed strongly in the material they produced. We were hugely impressed by the response and the results.”

The competition was for a student to design the plastic enclosure and then the packaging for a consumer electronics device. Lucas will now have his design manufactured on a large scale when D.I.C.E. launches their service into the UK and European markets in the New Year. The student and the University name will feature on both the enclosure and packaging and it is hoped this in itself will provide sufficient kudos to kick-start the young designer’s career.

“Design competitions always bring new ideas and solutions for designers and companies, especially when it comes to new, innovative products. It was a really great experience working with professionals. I’m excited about this project, and I look forward to working with Hayden Technologies.” Said Kuta, winner of the competition.

This is the first partnership between the Interactive Design Institute and D.I.C.E. and other projects are on the horizon for future collaboration between the two parties.

“At the Interactive Design Institute we encourage our students to participate in national & international design competitions as this gives them the invaluable experience of competing against established practitioners. We are delighted that Lucas has won this prestigious competition and look forward to seeing his designs as part of Hayden Technologies product range” said Michael Stewart, Director Interactive Design Institute
