Emplicity, a local Professional Employer Organization (PEO), is offering free services to those who have been stranded, in an effort to lighten the blow to employers facing a temporary shutdown.

The Sacramento Bee Newspaper reported that Mainstay Business Solutions, a temporary staffing company operated by the 53 member Blue Lake Rancheria sovereign Indian tribe in Humboldt County, is prepared to cease operations in a disputed multi-million dollar bill owed to California’s Employment Development Department (EDD).

According to the Sacramento Bee, Eric Ramos, Mainstay’s CEO, says they are in dispute over $16.4 million in EDD charges, including interest and penalties. The Sacramento Bee is also reporting that Mainstay has already shut down, and to the clients that directly employ approximately 7,000 permanent and temporary employees, this could mean immediate business stoppage. Without state-mandated coverage for workers’ compensation and payroll services, many businesses may face temporary closure.

“This is a severe blow to the employer services industry and local employers,” remarks Vic Tanon, Chief Simplicity Officer and founder of Emplicity. “This is going to be a tough time for the affected business owner so we’re going to do whatever we can to help them stay up and running”, assures the 17-year payroll and workers’ compensation expert.
