Torridon Solutions is making it easier for business managers and executives, management consultants and project managers to merge the power, complexity and detail of Microsoft Project with the speed, intuitive simplicity and visual clarity of Swiftlight project management software.

Torridon today rolled out a beta edition of a new software tool that quickly converts the file formats that Swiftlight and MS Project 2003, 2007 and 2010 use to track tasks, timelines, milestones, resources, and budgets - allowing users to quickly move project and program plans to and from Swiftlight and Project as needed.

“We are building a bridge between the complex project planning and infinite detail of MS Project and the high-level summaries and clear graphical displays that Swiftlight delivers to senior management,” said Peter McWhinnie, chief executive officer of Torridon.

“At the same time, for initial project scoping and shaping, which often begins with ‘top down’ concepts, people can now use Swiftlight to sketch out a high-level plan, then pass it over to MS Project for detailed refinement,” said McWhinnie. “This is of particular value to project managers and consultants who work on a range of projects of varying scale and complexity, and who need both high level plans for communication to senior executives and the more detailed planning that MS Project delivers."

The new conversion functionality adds to the range of export/import utilities built into Swiftlight that make is easy to share the content of project plans with other business software tools:

  • Swiftlight offers one-click export to PowerPoint and PDF formats, and exports to Microsoft Excel in CSV formats, allowing users to instantly send Swiftlight charts, lists and tables into standard presentation and document formats and to extract milestones, meetings, actions and other data for easy manipulation and sharing.
  • Swiftlight users may copy and paste from lists and tables directly into Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and to Yahoo email and Gmail – “the powerhouse tools that are basic to business communication,” said McWhinnie, “making it incredibly uncomplicated to send task or other information when you need to collaborate with other users.”

About Swiftlight
Swiftlight is a project management software application that saves time, creates clarity and gets results for its users. Easier, simpler and with clearer graphics than MS Project, and faster and more structured than using Excel and PowerPoint for projects plans, it offers a planning structure, high quality visuals and outstanding ease of use. Created to meet the needs of a broad range of business managers, executives and consultants, rather than just project management experts, Swiftlight is particularly well-suited for project planning and progress reporting for “smaller scale” or “less complex” projects, for creating timelines and other outputs for project proposals, and for use as a high level planning and reporting tool alongside other software on more complex projects.

For people who find Microsoft Project too complex, and managing projects in Excel and PowerPoint very time-consuming, Swiftlight can quickly generate clear, presentation-ready plans and progress reports for initiatives such as product launches, strategy reviews, operational improvement initiatives or annual planning.

For specialist project managers with larger IT, engineering or R&D projects, Swiftlight makes it easy to articulate and visualize “the big picture,” with outputs that can capture timelines, objectives, deliverables and measures of success all on one page. Swiftlight also provides links to / from MS Project to simplify project planning and reporting.
