Aysia Wright of Greenloop, with the support of Remy Chevalier of Lü Magazine, Portland Fashion Week and many green living experts, environmental activists, celebrities and eco-fashion industry leaders, is hosting the first green model competition to launch Project Green Search, with the competition finals to be held during Portland Fashion Week, the most sustainable fashion week in the U.S featuring only independent and eco designers, Oct 7-11, 2009. Members of the press in the Los Angeles, CA area interested in a live interview with one of the organizers and several of the judges of the competition can attend a press event taking place at Visionary Boutique, located at 5285 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90019, on Thursday, August 20th, from 7-9pm. All are invited to joint us afterwayrd for LA Green Drinks, to mix, mingle and connect with many of the movers and shakers of the LA green scene.

Portland Fashion Week has received national and international recognition as the first eco-conscious production of a fashion week featuring both independent and eco-couture, urban casual, street and active wear from all over North America and internationally.

Greenloop's mission from the start has been to use fashion as a vehicle for environmental advocacy and industry-wide change. Project Green., Greenloop's education, outreach and fundraising arm, has evolved into Project Green Search, a platform aimed at inspiring people to start thinking about how to align their careers with their environmental ethics. A model search and competition is a natural and exciting expression of the Project Green. Search mission, given the influential role beauty and fashion play in society.

The program launched on Friday, October 10th, 2009 on http://www.projectgreensearch.com, where candidates can learn more and enter the competition. Entry for the 2009 competition period will be open until Friday, September 16th, 2009. Starting Monday, September 17th, the general public will be able to view entrants online and vote for their favorite ten candidates. All search contestants will be required to donate a minimum 10 hours volunteer time to an environmental group, choosing from a list including The Natural Step, Green Corps., the NRDC, Global Green, The Sierra Club, and others.

On September 25th, 2009, 10 lucky finalists will be invited to Portland for the final competition, where they will participate in a photo shoot with green fashion photographer Courtney Daily, to test their print work potential, be interviewed by each of our seven judges, and walk the runway during Portland Fashion Week as the final test. Each potential model will be dressed in designs by independent, established and emerging, eco-fashion designers. At the end of the runway show, each candidate will be rated by our panel of judges, resulting in the selection of a winner.

The winner of the 2009 Project Green Search will receive a prize package to include a contract with Option Model Management as well as a Los Angeles and NY based agency (to be announced), a complete make-over and Eco-Fashion wardrobe, a professional photography session with Courtney Dailey, cover shots, articles and spreads in several print and online magazines, and a natural & organic beauty shopping spree at Future Natural, guidance and support from LOHAS in working with sustainable companies and additional prizes to be announced soon. The lucky winner will receive wide exposure and the opportunity to model for sustainable fashion houses, green products lines, organic cosmetic companies, and more, from lingerie to LED's, launching her new, green career.

Our panel of celebrity, green living and entertainment industry judges includes Summer Rayne Oakes, whose modeling career coined the term "green model", and who is environmental activist, spokesperson and author of Style Naturally; Josie Maran, professional model and founder of her namesake natural beauty line, Josie Maran Cosmetics; Starre Vartan, author of the book Eco-Chick and eco-fashion writer extraordinaire; Darren Moore, TV personality, eco-consultant and adventurer and co-star with Adrian Grenier on the Planet Green (Discovery Channel) series, Alter Eco; Deborah Lindquist, trail blazing, A-list, eco-designer with a cult like Los Angeles following; and Michael Kaliski, CEO and Producer at Omniquest Media, specializing in environmental and socially driven media & entertainment projects. The audience will serve as the seventh judge, participating in the final vote via text.
