San Francisco Bay Area branding and web design firm, Project6 Design, is featuring an award-winning website they created with a new case study. Located in Vallejo, California, The California Maritime Academy (Cal Maritime) is a unique and specialized campus of the 23-campus California State University (CSU) system. They are one of only seven degree-granting maritime academies in the United States — and the only one on the West Coast. Project6 Design led the Cal Maritime team through a collaborative process to identify a new brand strategy and website design and direction for the school.

Cal Maritime had a problem: they were a major California State University campus with over seven thousand website pages of content, an extremely difficult user experience and an overall site design that did not effectively reflect their core values. They knew they needed to update their website to have it be more effective, but were unsure exactly how to do this.

Project6 Design helped to create some solutions. Project6 redesigned the information architecture from the ground up based on each core group of users from the campus and beyond. Creating different user scenarios and sections of the site that speak directly to those user groups, P6 was able to simplify the usability of the site and make information more accessible. Project6 worked closely with the Cal Maritime team to then implement this new information architecture and content strategy into the site design and web development, making it come to life. The new design is much more bold and compelling, better reflecting Cal Maritime’s brand attributes, plus accurately and effectively showing off their unique campus and student experience.

And the results are truly compelling! A multi award-winning university website design that reduced the page count by eliminating redundancies and simplifies the overall user experience. Integration of a CMS (content management system) allows content to be edited easily throughout the site. Plus the design fully engages site visitors and really reflects the full experience of Cal Maritime as an institution of higher learning.

“We really enjoyed working with Project6 Design on the redesign of our campus website,” said Jennifer Whitty, Director of Communications for The California Maritime Academy. “Their team did a great job walking us through the creative process, which helped us to better highlight what makes Cal Maritime so unique. The end result is a website that is much more visually compelling to our prospective students, parents, alumni and friends of the campus. We congratulate Project6 Design on their Awards, which from our perspective are well deserved!”

“We are very proud to highlight our work with Cal Maritime,” said Esten Sesto, President and Founder of Project6 Design. “Our collaboration with their team brought about a great deal of exciting ideas on how to more effectively communicate their core values and important information about the school to their target audience. Overall, our creative process and systematic approach helped us elicit Cal Maritime’s true brand character and create a compelling new site to engage their audience and tell their unique story.”
