“Our new partners bolster Bertone Piccini’s ability to deliver smart, fast, effective solutions to clients. This includes Richard’s specialized corporate and health care knowledge and Sean’s redevelopment experience,” said Partner Jeremy Piccini.

Bertone Piccini LLP, a boutique law firm based in Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., today announced the appointment of two new partners: Richard G. Lyons and Sean R. McGowan. Since its founding in 2010 by Grace C. Bertone and Jeremy S. Piccini, the firm has grown to include 14 attorneys, focusing on practice areas including commercial real estate, corporate and business transactions, litigation, employment, estate planning, healthcare and more.

“Our new partners bolster Bertone Piccini’s ability to deliver smart, fast, effective solutions to clients. This includes Richard’s specialized corporate and health care knowledge and Sean’s redevelopment experience, largely unseen in the legal industry,” said Partner Jeremy Piccini. “They provide the depth of knowledge, breadth of experience and responsive service that Bertone Piccini is recognized for – strengthening our firm and relationships with the business community.”

Sean McGowan, an attorney with the firm since 2017, practices all facets of real estate, real estate development and property management, including redevelopment, land use planning and zoning, real estate transactions, commercial lending, landlord-tenant and general business representation. Prior to joining Bertone Piccini, McGowan was vice president of development and legal affairs for a large, New Jersey-based commercial developer. In that role, he oversaw the development and entitlement process for over 2,000 multifamily residential units, retail and warehouse space.

McGowan studied at Rutgers University and Seton Hall University School of Law prior to commencing his legal and business career. He also serves on the Planning Board in Caldwell, N.J., where he lives, and serves as counsel to several public agencies.

“We aim to be as practical and effective as possible,” McGowan said. “We are not afraid to think outside of the box. Sometimes lawyers get bogged down in details and forget about the big picture. Here, we keep that singular focus, allowing for creative solutions that allow our clients to meet their ultimate goals.”

Richard Lyons received his Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University School of Law and joined the firm in 2013. His practice has concentrated in the areas of business/corporate transactions, commercial real estate, construction and health care. Lyons’ transactional focus includes commercial real estate leasing, acquisitions and dispositions. In business/corporate transactions, Lyons serves as outside general counsel to several small to mid-sized businesses, assisting with a wide variety of transactional matters. In health care, he works with medical device and pharmaceutical companies on research and consulting agreements.

“I couldn’t be happier to be recognized as a partner. We are extremely creative with our work and we remain value-driven and detail-oriented, which I honestly believe separates the firm,” Lyons said. “We pride ourselves in our practical responses to clients and they appreciate our ability to prioritize and empathize with them regardless of the situation. Our ongoing growth reflects this commitment.”

Bertone Piccini LLP is certified by the State of New Jersey as a Women Owned Business Enterprise (WBE), by the State Department of Transportation as a Disadvantaged Business Entity (DBE), by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) as a WBE, and by the National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF).

“We are thrilled to announce Richard and Sean as new partners at the firm, as they both bring a distinct work ethic and practical business knowledge to their roles,” said Managing Partner Grace Bertone. “Our firm provides an exciting, stimulating and creative environment where talent and innovation are both recognized and rewarded. This announcement is simply an extension of that mission.”
