ProStar, Inc. a leading provider of precision asset management and damage prevention solutions to the utility and pipeline industry, signed an agreement with Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) to utilize Google Maps Engine to power ProStar’s Transparent Earth™ application.
Transparent Earth™ is a cloud-based application designed to help on-site teams obtain, display, measure and manage precise map data and utility assets. By integrating Google Maps Engine, ProStar can utilize Google’s purpose-built geo platform and functionality to manage and locate utility assets underground. Additionally, ProStar is also working closely with Google to develop its mobile data collection software, PointMan™, which uses Android-based technology to provide field teams with access to vital map and asset information within a remote environment.
A key benefit of implementing Google Maps Engine is the ability to provide application users with real-time access to the simple and familiar Google Maps interface. Google’s easy to use map platform helps make ProStar’s solutions more accessible to a global audience. Furthermore, application users can also rely on the Google Map for map data accuracy.
“Google Maps Engine is designed to let organizations such as ProStar develop simple, yet powerful map solutions that can process, organize and manage location data using Google’s unrivaled cloud infrastructure. By integrating Google Maps Engine, ProStar clients can leverage the familiar tools provided by Google Maps and world-class imagery by Google Earth. This information can be securely published and shared with internal and external stakeholders from any device and in any environment,“ says Tarun Bhatnagar, director, Google Geo Enterprise.
This new offering leverages Google’s mapping and Android-enabled technologies which are familiar to millions of users to provide real-time visualization of aggregated spatial data and enhanced communications between office operations and the project site. By powering PointMan™ and Transparent Earth™ solutions with Google Maps Engine and Android-enabled technologies, ProStar can help to meet underground asset management requirements that are unique to the utilities industry while minimizing safety risks to the public and environment.
