Ever since the Financial Accounting Standards Board issued FIN 46(R) in December 2003, accountants have struggled with the reporting of off-balance sheet entities. GAAP exception reports have increased significantly due to noncompliance with FIN 46(R). On July 18, 2008, the Private Company Financial Reporting Committee recommended that FASB alter the requirements of the recommendation for privately held companies, suggesting that the FASB allow stand-alone parent-only financial statements under GAAP for private companies. Perquest’s web-based course will examine this timely topic and answer common questions.
