Mailshell, a leading provider of email reputation, anti-spam and anti-phishing engines for OEMs, today announced that GFI Software, an international developer of network security, content security and messaging software, has selected and integrated Mailshell's software engines to provide reputation-based email security, anti-spam and anti-phishing protection to its anti-spam product GFI MailEssentials.

Users of GFI MailEssentials have joined thousands of enterprises and more than 15 million consumers who rely on 'Powered by Mailshell' filters for email reputation data and protection from spam and phishing.

This new layer of protection combines the Mailshell Anti-Spam SDK with Mailshell LiveFeed, a real-time data service that quantifies reputation via advanced statistical models. Unlike other reputation services that provide only a binary 'good' or 'bad' rating, LiveFeed provides granular trust ratings with automated adjustment over time as reputations change. By focusing reputation on mathematical models, rather than simply an 'IP black list' approach, LiveFeed provides more accurate, highly scalable detection.

"GFI MailEssentials is one of our leading products and we wanted to provide an additional level of protection for our customers. We tested several commercial OEM solutions for more than six months before choosing Mailshell," said David Vella, Director of Product Management at GFI. "Mailshell LiveFeed offers broader global coverage, greater scoring granularity and higher detection rates than competing solutions."

In addition to Mailshell's technology, GFI MailEssentials uses a variety of technologies including Bayesian filtering, white-listing technology and DNS blacklists to beat the latest spam threats. With over 60 awards to its name, 80,000 satisfied customers and the lowest prices on the market, GFI MailEssentials blocks more than 98 percent of spam with a very low rate of false positives. GFI MailEssentials also uses a Directory Harvesting feature on the email gateway to drop email messages and NDRs sent to non-existent users.

"GFI sources complementary technologies to ensure consistently superior detection rates," said Tonny Yu, CEO of Mailshell. "GFI's evaluation and testing processes are thorough and methodical, and its customers benefit from its rigorous approach."

Mailshell's SDKs, including LiveFeed, provide complete and consistently accurate protection against email fraud, phishing and spam. The SDKs are available on more than 10 operating systems and require as little as 32KB of code on the device. Mailshell's SDKs are embedded into security, networking and messaging products including software appliances, SaaS platforms, gateway security software, desktop security suites, UTM, mobile devices, wireless access points, firewalls, modems, and other low memory devices.
