Over 100 finalists were named in the first annual People Awards Program. All finalists will be recognized at an awards luncheon on October 4, 2010, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., in what is part of a two-day event celebrating excellence in care coordination. The inaugural Care Coordination Summit will take place on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, also at the National Press Club.
“The goal of the first annual Dorland Health People Awards is to recognize individual professionals making a difference in settings across the care continuum.,” said Anne Llewellyn, Editor in Chief with Dorland Health. “Our People Awards celebration will recognize healthcare’s creative and innovative leaders—those who inspire, motivate and empower their colleagues and who are making a real difference transitioning patients through the care continuum.”
Entries for the awards program were evaluated by a team of judges, and finalists have been selected for this year’s program based on leadership, creativity, innovations and specific programs or as a member of the care coordination team in their organization. Special emphasis was placed on professionals who spearhead efforts to make healthcare safe, quality-driven and cost-effective for all.
Finalists include practitioners in the following categories: Behavioral Health, Case/Care Management, Chaplains, Clinical Nursing, Disability Management, Disease Management, Ethics, Geriatric Care Management, Health/Medical Advocacy, Hospice/Palliative, Life Care Planning, Medical Directors (including Providers and Medical Directors from Hospital and Managed Care facilities), Medical Translation, Nurse Practitioners, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists, Physical Therapists, Psychologists, Physician Assistants, Rehabilitation Specialists, Quality Management, Social Work, Vocational Rehabilitation and Wellness. During the People Awards celebration, winners from all categories will be unveiled. The event will feature keynote speaker Dr. Norman Makous, the author of Time to Care: Personal Medicine in the Age of Technology. Dr. Makous will share how care is moving to a personal approach in this era of new technologies.
