Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) September 28, 2010
RightScale®, Inc., the leader in cloud computing management, today announced the RightScale Development & Test Solution Pack -- a cloud management solution designed to help software development and testing teams more easily provision and use cloud computing resources to improve software quality and speed time-to-market. The RightScale Development & Test Solution Pack supports four development languages: PHP, Java, Ruby and .NET, and it includes Java and PHP solutions from RightScale partners IBM and Zend Technologies.
"The RightScale Development and Test Solution Pack provides enterprises with an easy on-ramp to cloud computing," said Michael Crandell, RightScale CEO. "Some organizations aren't ready to move production applications to the cloud. By using our cloud management platform for software development and test, they can achieve greater agility for their development teams with virtually no long-term commitment or risk, and at the same time learn more about cloud computing.
"Developers are constantly under pressure to get software into the hands of users faster, and with RightScale and the cloud, they can access and easily provision the resources they need as well as maintain consistent, reproducible environments from design through production. It's a great first step into cloud computing," continued Crandell.
The new RightScale Solution Pack includes the core RightScale Cloud Management Platform with two different user interfaces - a self-service interface designed for developers and testers to launch servers in the cloud, and an administrative interface to enable systems professionals to customize RightScale's standard environments. It also comes with two pre-configured server environments tailored for different stages in the development and testing process: an "All-in-One" configuration, which provides an easy way to do basic integration testing on a single server in the cloud; and a "Multi-Tier" environment, which can be used for more complex testing with separate load balancing, application and database servers.
RightScale Improves Software Development Agility
With RightScale's Development & Test Solution Pack, users can easily provision and launch on-demand cloud resources with the specific configuration they need in minutes - not days or weeks. In addition, development organizations can maintain more consistent, reproducible environments from design through production.
RightScale's ServerTemplate methodology supports implementing reference architectures from which components can be re-used and re-combined to create single-server or multi-server configurations in each stage of the software lifecycle. As configuration information changes in one stage, it's easy to replicate those changes to other stages. Once in production, operations staff can take advantage of the full power of RightScale's Cloud Management Platform to monitor and manage system performance, users and costs.
RightScale Solution Includes Optimized Stacks from IBM and Zend
In addition to the core RightScale server configurations for Java, PHP, Ruby and .NET, the RightScale Development & Test Solution Pack includes additional, feature-rich Java and PHP stacks developed by RightScale partners IBM and Zend Technologies, respectively. The IBM Java stack comprises the IBM DB2 database and the WebSphere application server, and it is available in a Community Edition as well as an Enterprise Edition. Zend delivers a tested stack that incorporates PHP, Zend Framework, required extensions and drivers, as well as an extensive set of application management capabilities that address a range of development needs on the cloud.
Eldad Maniv, senior vice president of Products and Marketing at Zend Technologies noted, "The on-demand hardware and elasticity provided by the cloud can be extremely beneficial to development teams creating business-critical PHP Web applications. With the RightScale platform, developers can leverage Zend Server capabilities, such as code tracing, performance optimization and job queuing, to build and test scalable applications faster without spending time on setting up multiple server environments."
By using RightScale with IBM's DB2 database and WebSphere application server on the cloud, Retalon -- a provider of retail analytics solutions -- has been able to quickly develop a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering to expand its market reach.
"With RightScale and IBM's middleware stack on the cloud, we have been able to easily develop and test our SaaS solution for IBM retail customers with few resources and little investment," said Mark Krupnik, president of Retalon Inc. "Our development and test processes are predictable and repeatable, and with a single click of a button, our environments on the cloud can mirror a typical production environment."
