Unidesk and Zenk GmbH, a leading European provider of IT network, storage and virtualization solutions, have announced an agreement under which Zenk will distribute Unidesk Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) management software in Germany. Zenk has joined the Unidesk Solution Partner program, and will focus on ensuring the success of VDI implementations by combining Unidesk with Pano Logic zero clients and VMware vSphere virtualization infrastructure.
As an early provider of VMware-based VDI solutions in Europe and the first European distributor for Pano Logic, Zenk has experienced a growing need for robust VDI management to help German resellers and customers achieve more success with hosted virtual desktops. Zenk is partnering with Unidesk to fill this management need.
According to CEO Andreas Zenk, “Many German customers want to realize the security and green computing benefits of moving desktops into the data center, especially as they look at migrating to Windows 7. But the move to VDI has been slowed by high storage costs, limited end user personalization, and application packaging and Windows image management complexity. Unidesk solves all of these problems with one innovative solution. The combination of Pano Logic, Unidesk, and VMware now enables us to offer VDI that is actually better than a physical PC for both IT and end users.”
Unidesk Vice President of Worldwide Sales Brian McDonough commented, “Andreas was a fantastic early advocate for VDI, and one of the first to recognize its potential. His company has an excellent background in desktop virtualization, a strong reseller network, and relationships with many VMware Microsoft, and Pano Logic customers who can benefit from Unidesk VDI management. We look forward to partnering with Zenk to expand Unidesk’s presence in Germany, and become the catalyst that is needed to accelerate both Windows 7 and VDI adoption.”
Unidesk is available immediately in Germany through Zenk GmbH and Zenk resellers. Visit http://www.zenk.de for more information.
About Unidesk VDI Management Software
Unidesk creates virtual desktops on VMware infrastructure that are capable of sustaining all user personalization – not just profile settings – while using up to 70% less storage. Administrators can update all VDI desktops from a single Microsoft Windows gold image and single images of all applications for easy patching, provisioning, and application delivery. Workers access their personalized, storage-efficient Unidesk desktops through existing PCs or Pano Logic zero clients using Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection brokering technology built-in to Windows 7, or third party connection brokers from VMware, Citrix, and other providers.
With Unidesk’s innovative desktop layering technology, customers are overcoming the biggest obstacles to VDI success:
- Restricted User Experience: Unidesk goes beyond the capabilities of VDI profile management tools, offering 100% Persistent Personalization that sustains Windows Color and Appearance, Desktop Background, Sounds, Mouse Pointers, document saves and renames, system personalization settings such as SIDs and GUIDs, User-Installed Applications (UIAs), User-Installed Plug-Ins to IT-assigned applications and more through desktop logouts, reboots and patches.
- Application Packaging Complexity and Limitations: Unidesk layering technology can package, version, and deliver any application, overcoming the limitations of traditional application virtualization that cannot package antivirus, VPN clients, Adobe Acrobat, and other applications with system services and boot-time drivers, as well as many custom-built, in-house applications. Unidesk can also package applications without time-consuming sequencing and scripting processes, and Unidesk-layered applications are able to share data and communicate even when they’re not packaged together.
- Windows Image Management Complexity: Unidesk offers single image provisioning and patching of Windows 7 without the loss of personalization caused by cloning technologies, and without the risk and cost of patch failures. Customers can provision all VDI desktops from one, pristine gold image of Windows, and layer on different applications based on the needs of specific users or groups of users.
- High Storage Costs: Unidesk’s desktop layering technology shares single images of Microsoft Windows and common application such as Microsoft Office across many VDI desktops to prevent duplication, reducing VDI storage requirements up to 70%.
Unidesk (http://www.unidesk.com) provides the virtual desktop management software platform that organizations of all sizes require to successfully centralize desktops on data center servers. The company’s patent-pending desktop layering technology works with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) access solutions from VMware, Citrix, Microsoft, and other vendors to sustain personalization for workers who need a customizable user experience, while empowering IT with efficient management of operating system and application updates. Unidesk customers benefit from increased worker productivity and reduced IT operations and data center storage costs. Unidesk is a privately-held company with headquarters in Marlborough, Mass, USA
