Glory of Rome heralds a new class of games for social gamers.

Redwood City, CA (PRWEB) December 21, 2010

Kabam™, a leading developer of massively multiplayer social games for social networks, today announced the release of Glory of Rome™, a stirring strategy game for Facebook that puts players in the sandals of a Dominus or Domina seeking to restore the glory of Rome by transforming their city into a thriving empire. Specifically designed to appeal to game players seeking deeper gaming experiences on social networks, Glory of Rome lets players choose to ally with one of five powerful Roman deities, each of whom bestow different attributes in line with individual player strategy for imperial domination, and then build an empire and raise an army to conquer the ancient world.

Glory of Rome is set in 68 AD, the chaotic period following Emperor Nero’s suicide. Players seek to exploit this chaos to strengthen their city, build an army that can conquer the divided Empire and restore the grandeur of Rome’s glory. The game incorporates rich social play and real time interaction, powerful divine forces, canny military strategy, and tactical resource management along with an immersive setting in the fractious world of ancient Rome.

While many “casual” social games focus on a quick, simple experience, Glory of Rome immerses players in a richer milieu, offering a window to a deep, colorful ancient world with more interactive choices and strategy. While the gameplay is intuitive, the strategic choices require deliberate attention and reward thoughtful play over time—Rome cannot be built in a day.

Following up on the success of Kabam’s breakout Facebook hit, Kingdoms of Camelot®, Glory of Rome creates a game of military strategy and conquest unlike anything else on Facebook. Players choose to worship one of five Roman deities, each of which provides a boost to specific powers: Venus speeds population growth, for example, while Apollo improves Research and Mars heightens Attack. The choice of deity further differentiates players, as their selection resonates throughout a player’s game, from skills to building styles.

“Glory of Rome heralds a new class of games for social gamers,” said Wayne Chan, Kabam’s General Manager overseeing the game. “It’s another step toward creating what gamers look for in a true strategy game that can be played on a social network. We’ve introduced the deity feature to make player choices and strategy more important, and added artifacts that can be discovered to convey in-game bonuses. These and other changes make playing this game a unique experience.”

Adding to the game’s social elements, players can chat and ally in real time with other players, known as Cohorts, to better attack and defend against their enemies, while also adding friends as Generals with specific tasks that boost resource gathering, military strength, research, or construction speed. As in historical Rome, players can entertain their citizens by building a Coliseum and putting on events to please their populace. To enhance the intrigue of battle, player armies may discover historical artifacts that enhance their powers as they conquer wilderness areas. Whatever gameplay tactics they choose to employ, players will find the road to Rome paved with immersive strategy, rich settings, and compelling gameplay worthy of the glory of the greatest empire of the ancient world.

“Glory of Rome follows and builds on the success of Kingdoms of Camelot and represents another step in Kabam’s efforts to lead a new wave of social games, games that combine depth and richness of play associated with games in strategy and RPG categories with the connectivity and interaction of social networks,” said Kabam Chief Product Officer Andrew Sheppard. “We call these massively multiplayer social games, games where real people are playing and communicating in real time.”

“At Kabam, we play for real,” Sheppard continued, “and, we have more coming. We’ll be announcing our third such game in January 2011 with lots more to follow, all offering richer, deeper social experiences for real gamers.”

For worldwide appeal, the game will be localized in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Japanese and Chinese. For more information, visit the Glory of Rome game page or http://www.kabam.com/
