Rutherford, CA (PRWEB) October 29, 2011

Peju Winery supports October Breast Cancer Awareness Month with their 2010 vintage of Peju Pink wine. Since 2007, Peju has donated 10% of all proceeds from the sale of each bottle of its Peju Pink to local organizations that treat breast cancer patients and provide cancer research.

This year Peju has donated another $9,000 to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa Valley where the funds are distributed directly to patients needing financial assistance for services provided through the Women’s Imaging Center. Since 2007 Peju has raised over $60,000 for various Bay Area breast cancer organizations through both the sales of Peju Pink wine and through employee participation in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in San Francisco, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Napa and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

The idea for Peju Pink came to winemaker Sara Fowler as she had just finished the 2006 harvest and had some very nice saignée Syrah juice on hand. At the same time, both Sara’s staff enologist and her stepmother were battling breast cancer and were going through chemotherapy treatments. To honor these women and to help others fighting this disease she presented the idea for Peju Pink to the Peju family. Within the space of a few hours Sara had the support of H.B., Lisa and Ariana Peju to produce a blush-style blend and the assurance that a portion of all proceeds from this wine would go toward breast cancer research and patient care.

"On behalf of Queen of the Valley Medical Center and breast cancer patients from our community, we are honored and very grateful for Peju’s philanthropic and generous support. It is this type of community support that allows the Queen to have the resources and to offer services that encourage mammography and early detection of breast cancer," said Helen Patterson, Program Director, Queen of the Valley Medical Center Foundation.

Peju Pink retails for $22.00 per bottle and is available for sale exclusively through the Peju tasting room and online. Peju Pink is a fragrant blush-style wine with fresh berry flavors and hints of apricots and is served chilled. The Peju Pink label was a collaboration of the women of Peju and features a woman in pink and was inspired by the three muses featured in the stain glass of the Peju Tower tasting room.
