Toyota partners with to build a social network for customers and their cars

The Toyota Motor Company and have announced that they have partnered to form a strategic alliance so they can build “Toyota Friend”, a private social network for Toyota customers and their vehicles. The social network, “Toyota Friend”, will be powered by Salesforce Chatter, a private social network that is used by businesses. The network will initially be offered to people with Toyota’s electric vehicles (EV) and plug-in hybrid vehicles that will be out in 2012. Toyota Friend will first be offered out in Japan.

Dan Wolf Toyota of Naperville is Illinois’ largest Toyota dealership and will be offering the network once it hits U.S. soil. Customers can expect the most up-to-date vehicles and service at Toyota of Naperville.

Toyota Friend will enable Toyota customers to connect with other Toyota owners, their dealership, their cars and Toyota. This social network will provide numerous product and service information as well as essential maintenance tips. Toyota Friend will even be able to alert the driver if their vehicle is running low on battery power in the form of a “tweet-like” approach.

Customers that participate in Toyota Friend will be able to communicate with friends, family and others through public social networks like Facebook and Twitter. The service will even be accessible through smart phones and mobile devices.
