November 3rd through the 6th, is the announced date for the weekend of the 2011 Big Sur Food and Wine Festival, states President of the Festival, Toby Rowland-Jones.
“Now into our third year, we continue to grow and make our festival a really special time for those who venture down the coast,” Rowland-Jones explains. “We have managed to attract wine and food lovers from all over the United States. From Florida, Alabama, the Carolinas, New York, and Texas among others, our fan base is expanding. The positive responses we’ve received are truly inspiring. To add a bit more Big Sur character to the event this year, the popular Hiking With Stemware™ at the Rancho Rico property will include a fabulous dinner and then a special celebrations afterwards. We will also be offering a Magical Mystery Tour that will include visits to at least three private properties along the coast, replete with wine and delicious treats from some of our favorite chefs.”
Once again, the Gateway to Big Sur – the opening night extravaganza to be held at the Highlands Inn – A Hyatt Hotel, will feature 20 favorite wineries and 10 chefs showing off their skills. “This is one of the loveliest hotels in all of California and has a great history of food and wine celebrations, most notably the Masters of Food and Wine.” Rowland-Jones continues, “We so appreciate the Hyatt for their remarkable generosity in creating this wonderful evening.”
As with the last two years, all the participating wineries and chefs are personal friends of the committee. “It’s ALL about friends and neighbors,” Rowland-Jones explains. “It’s not about the fame, but the integrity of what they do and our friendship. What better way for these winemakers to relax after a long summer and the travails of harvest!” Attending wineries will include Pisoni, Ridge, Fogarty, Pride Mountain, Chappellet, Au Bon Climat, Talbott, Siduri and so many more, matching their wines with such luminaries as Matt Bolton of the Highlands Inn, Cal Stamenov of Bernardus, Truman Jones of Ventana Inn and Spa, and many more.

The Big Sur Food and Wine Festival raises funds for the Big Sur community to promote Health, Safety and Education. The 2010 Festival raised almost $20,000 for various nonprofit organizations in the area including the the Health Center, the Henry Miller Library and the five separate schools throughout the Big Sur area.
