Following several years of solid performance and a recent increase in bookings, Tronics has invested in a much larger headquarters in Grenoble and is expanding its manufacturing facilities.
Since 2003, Tronics, had been located in a 1400 square meter building housing both its offices and MEMS manufacturing clean rooms. In 2011, Tronics decided to expand both its office and manufacturing areas by moving all offices and engineering labs to a new modern building across the street. The high-end 1500 square meter building was renovated during Q2, and the move took place mid-August. The former office space will now be used exclusively for manufacturing, including a new back-end clean room that is being built. This new space will provide more MEMS assembly capacity and enhanced process capabilities and automation. The existing wafer fab in the same building remains fully operational during the transition. Overall more than half a million euros were invested for this expansion, excluding new equipment. The project is self-funded and will be 100% complete by the end of 2011.
“This significant step will be very positive for both our employees and customers. It prepares us for the strong growth we foresee in the next 5 years,” says Peter Pfluger, CEO of Tronics.
Tronics is an international, full-service MEMS manufacturer. With wafer fabs in France and the USA, and representation in Asia, Tronics provides local support to customers on three continents, and offers one of the broadest technology portfolios in the industry. Tronics’ services range from MEMS design, to high-volume MEMS manufacturing. The company builds reliable supply chains for delivery of MEMS ranging from wafers to integrated custom components, but also supports earlier phases of projects where prototyping is required. Tronics’ engineering support includes electronic interface development, assembly and custom packaging, but also medical-device development, from its dedicated medical division in California. Founded in 1997, Tronics has 14 years of experience in developing, manufacturing, and packaging accelerometers, gyroscopes, micropumps, pressure sensors, switches, biodetectors and many more MEMS.
