Clarifi Consulting, a high quality advice and support service has devised a programme of healing and therapy specifically for male survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA) that confronts the exact nature of the abuse and how to move forward through therapy and healing.

Director Clare Wilson explains: “People may be shocked to hear that one in six men will have been sexually abused as a child, leaving them profoundly affected well into adulthood by the lasting trauma of their experiences.”

“Male survivors of Childhood Sex Abuse will often struggle with issues of anger and grief and some may turn to alcohol and drugs compounding their problems still further,” Clare continues.

The ‘IT’ programme is seen as a much needed opportunity for survivors to gain healing and improved self-confidence through addressing the negative issues that have developed in their lives.

The eight week programme looks at several aspects of historic abuse that includes flashbacks and memories and how to cope with feelings of anger and grief. Through therapy individuals are also encouraged to adopt healthier lifestyle patterns as a way of improving their quality of life.

Clare says: “Through addressing difficult emotions and by learning self-healing techniques a survivor’s dependency on ‘peripheral’ medical services will hopefully lessen and assist them back into education or employment and also help them to deal better with their relationships especially with their own children.”

Each programme is run by a facilitator, trained by Clare Wilson, and will be a qualified therapist, counsellor or social worker with relative experience.
