Leamington Spa, UK (PRWEB UK) 28 October 2012
Warwickshire town, Leamington Spa saw 165 new company registrations during the first quarter of the year, beating any previous quarter in the history of the town. The figure also represents a 13% rise on the same period in 2011.
Leamington Spa Old Town, situated to the south of the town centre, recently won its bid to become a Mary Portas Pilot Town. The area has become run down in recent years, but 98% of businesses are independent and there are a wide variety of shops, restaurants and other industries in the location, making it an ideal candidate for regeneration.
The success of the application will bring £100,000 of government money into the area, along with additional funding from local businesses and the Town Council, Warwick District Council and Warwickshire County Council. Projects will focus on helping new and innovative businesses, improving the local facilities and turning around the negative perceptions of the area.
Managing Director of Duport.co.uk, Peter Valaitis said:
“The record number of new company formations we have seen in Leamington this year reflects the thriving town centre, and bodes well for the future economy.
“The regeneration of the Old Town can only be a good thing for the area and looks set to increase the strength of the economy as a whole.”
