NYC Gifted, the leader in NYC G&T admission preparation since year 2006, is pleased to announce the expansion of their premier G&T Prep Program offering this year by opening more classes to accommodate the rapidly rising number of families seeking help in preparing their children for Gifted and Talented Program admission exams.
The NYC Department of Education Gifted and Talented Program admission process is undergoing some rigorous changes this year. There will be two assessments that have been used in many districts across the country. The combination of verbal test items from the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) and nonverbal test items from the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT2) provide a thorough and balanced look at each child’s intellectual abilities to identify students who are eligible to apply for a G&T program. The new nonverbal test NNAT will be weighted 2/3 in the composite score and the verbal OLSAT will be weighted 1/3.
“These are difficult exams. In fact, these are a lot more difficult than the exams last year” said Renee Lee, one anxious mother of twins testing for kindergarten, “I want my girls to perform the best they can on the test. Getting familiar with the exam is very important. That’s why I’m sending my kids to this prep program to get prepared.”
The G&T Prep program offered by NYC Gifted helps children to sharpen their reasoning skills that are required on the exam, as well as to increase their attention span and to get familiar with the testing format. “We will be sacrificing some weekends to come to the class these few months” said Radhika, a busy Manhattan mom, “but so far, my lovely daughter has been making a lot of progress. That’s all it matters. I rather spend the time and money now than later.”
