MIRAMAR, FL (PRWEB) October 18, 2012
BrightSky announced today that they are sponsoring Eddie Vazquez, an athlete living with Type 1 diabetes for the full Ironman Triathlon to be held in Wilmington, NC, this Saturday, October 20th. Vazquez, a 34-year-old Cuban-American and Miami Dade County resident, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 19. “I have accepted diabetes as part of my life,” says Eddie Vazquez, “however, it does not have to limit my ability to achieve what others can achieve without diabetes.”
Vazquez is competing in the full Ironman competition with the consent of his endocrinologist who believes that Eddie is in excellent condition to compete in the grueling triathlon. Eddie, after training diligently for over a year, is ready to take on the challenge of the Ironman course which includes a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run. Eddie’s daily training regimen starts at 4:30am every day, so that his training does not limit his ability to be a good dad to his son, Tyler, age 18 months, daughter Samantha, age 5, and wife of 8 years, Jeni.
Eddie is prepared to control his diabetes the day of the race with gluco gel, electrolyte water, and checking his blood sugar throughout the race. His wife and family will be there to cheer him on when he crosses the finish line.
“BrightSky wants to help its members live a full life and not be controlled by their diabetes.,” says Kendra Obrist, Sr. VP of Marketing and Product Management, “We believe Eddie is a role model and may be inspirational for others living with diabetes.”
