Stock up on enough non-perishable food items and water to last at least two weeks.
Waco, Texas (PRWEB) October 27, 2012
Hurricane Sandy, which is currently expected to make landfall between Virginia and southern New England, is expected to combine with a winter storm, creating what forecasters are calling "Frankenstorm." Those in the predicted path of the storm must prepare for the worst.
According to The Weather Channel, gale-force winds, heavy rain, flooding and even snow are predicted for early next week.
Residents should be prepared to be without power for extended periods of time. Stock up on enough non-perishable food items and water to last at least two weeks.
Then prepare your home for wind and storm damage. Make sure you have a first aid kit, blankets, flashlights and batteries. With this storm, broken limbs and downed power lines are highly possible. In such scenarios, it is recommended to secure your windows. There is still time to secure your windows before the storm strikes.
How to Prepare Secured Plywood Panels
1. Cut the plywood to fit at least six inches around the window frame.
2. Make sure there are at least two inches from the edge of the window pane to the outer edge of the exterior wall to prevent damaging the window when the plywood is installed.
3. Special clips that fasten to the window frame or brick veneer can be used to secure the plywood to the exterior wall.
4. Secure the plywood using clips or by drilling screws 18 inches apart around the plywood perimeter.
