The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) 25th Industry Growth Forum this week named Silver Bullet Water Treatment LLC as the recipient of its top national prize, the Best Venture award.
The Colorado company’s commercially available, cost-effective and environmentally responsible water treatment product replaces the addition of toxic chemicals in treating water in cooling towers and agricultural drinking water systems. Additional applications of its product will be released soon.
The Silver Bullet system eliminates harsh chemicals and provides complete biocide and scale control. In cooling tower applications, the product saves up to 30% of the tower’s water consumption and increases heat transfer efficiency by up to 15%. On dairy farms and in feedlots, the system significantly reduces harmful bacteria.
Silver Bullet’s executive chairman, Robert Hanfling, said, “As a former Deputy Under Secretary of Energy, I am pleased that NREL has recognized Silver Bullet’s innovative solution to a difficult industry issue. We save our building customers water and energy and reduce operating costs while eliminating the use of toxic chemicals. Farmers also love our ability to kill bacteria without changing the odor and taste of the water.”
Added Hanfling: “By the end of next year we will be saving our customers water at the aggregate rate of nearly a billion gallons per year and saving energy at the rate of nearly 500,000 megawatt hours per year."
Silver Bullet’s cooling tower treatment product is currently installed on buildings throughout the United States; including hospitals, hotels, data centers and office buildings. Its agricultural product is treating animal drinking water on large farms in Colorado and Kansas.
