Bellwether employees raise $20K for Susan G. Komen for the Cure

“Unfortunately, breast cancer has touched many of us or our loved ones in some way,” stated L’Ecuyer. “We decided to increase our impact this year by supporting two of our own employees who decided to undertake a personal challenge to fight the disease."

Manchester, NH (PRWEB) October 31, 2012

Employees throughout the company have been impacted directly or indirectly by the disease, and in 2010 Bellwether decided that was time to proactively fight back. In 2010 and 2011, Bellwether was a major sponsor of a breast cancer awareness event organized by a prominent local radio station. This year, two employees, Nancy Nadeau and Lori Eldridge, decided to participate in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure walk in Philadelphia on October 5th-7th. When Bellwether heard about their plans, the Credit Union decided to get behind them both supportively and financially.

Bellwether provided a matching gift for a portion of the money the two employees raised. The Credit Union also held fundraising efforts at branch locations in Manchester, Nashua and Bedford. Raffle tickets were sold for a chance to win one of three pink-themed gift baskets. Bellwether collected donations online and at branches for the two employees’ and their team, Wings of Hope, leading up to their participation in the 3-Day walk in Philadelphia. The Credit Union also used their website, http://www.bccu.org, and Facebook page to engage their 30,000 members and friends in the fight against breast cancer.

On October 5th, the first day of the walk, Bellwether employees wore shirts with the Wings of Hope logo. The familiar pink ribbon on the rear of each shirt was made up of names of all Bellwether employees-- forming a virtual team of walkers supporting the two women.

Through their hard work and Bellwether’s assistance, the two employees were able to raise more than $20,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.

Bellwether Community Credit Union President/CEO, Michael L’Ecuyer, explained that many employees have been impacted by breast cancer making the cause close to the organization’s heart. “Unfortunately, breast cancer has touched many of us or our loved ones in some way,” stated L’Ecuyer. “We decided to increase our impact this year by supporting two of our own employees who decided to undertake a personal challenge to fight the disease. We are so proud of Nancy and Lori and their hard work and dedication. We also are grateful for the support and generosity our employees and members who cheered them on.”
